Laura Perpinyal

Laura Siegel Perpinyal grew up on the Northshore of Chicago. Together with her family, Laura was very active in her Jewish community, attending Olin Sang Ruby Union Institute for most summers of her life and she spent a semester of high school in Israel with NFTY EIE.

Laura attended Indiana University where she graduated with Honors with degrees in Jewish Studies and Political Science. After college, Laura returned to Chicago for a year and served as the Midwest Regional Director of the University Student Division of the World Zionist Organization. While leading a birthright trip for the WZO, Laura met her husband Avi, a South African-Israeli. During her time in Los Angeles studying at Hebrew Union College- Jewish Institute of Religion, Laura interned for the American Jewish Committee and coordinated a Family Education program at Congregation Or Ami.

After graduating from HUC in 2009 with Joint Masters Degrees in Jewish Education and Jewish Non-Profit Management, Laura and Avi moved to Johannesburg, South Africa for 2.5 years. There, Laura worked as Director of Development for the Jewish National Fund of South Africa focusing on education, fundraising and special events. She and Avi were also very involved with volunteering for Limmud Johannesburg and in 2011 Laura served as Limmud Johannesburg Conference Co-chair.

Laura has been the Director of Congregational Learning at Temple Chai since 2011. She is active in the leadership of the Association of Reform Jewish Educators (ARJE) serving as the Development Co-chair and most recently the Continuing Education Chair. In 2017 she started her term as President of the Chicago Area Reform Jewish Educators (CHARJE). Laura and Avi live in Northbrook with their two kids.
