Temple Chai’s teen school program is better than ever! Students from three different synagogues join together in exploring what it means to be a Jewish student in the Northwest Suburbs. By combining Beth Judea, Temple Chai and Beth Am's 8th - 12th grade programs, we've created a Community High School, Beyachad , which means "together." By combining resources, student's learning opportunities will be enhanced with more diverse, elective classes taught by 5 clergy and teachers from all three synagogues.
All 8th - 12th graders meet on Monday evenings, 6:30-8:30 p.m. The first semester is held at Congregation Beth Judea, second semester is held at Temple Chai.
Confirmation (10th grade) classes will meet separately with Clergy during one hour and then participate in the elective classes the second hour.
Paralleling this program are our youth group programs Jr. ChAmPY for 6th through 8th graders and ChAmPY for high school students. These groups meet on a regular basis outside of Beyachad for fun events like Temple lock-ins, volunteer opportunities at organizations like Feed My Starving Children, BBQ’s and more.
They also have an opportunity join the Chicago area’s Reform movement national youth organization NFTY-CAR to create lifelong friendships with other teens from across the Chicago area.
Also open to 8th graders and high school students is the temple’s Madrichim program designed to assist the temple’s religious and Hebrew school students, the school and to further develop the madrich/madricha’s own leadership skills.
